A lot of bowlers have taken more than five wickets at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and most of them were very important to their team’s victory. Three Sri Lankan bowlers are on the list of the best bowling performances in T20 World Cup history.

Ajantha Mendis – 6/8 vs Zimbabwe, 2012
Ajantha Mendis, a mystery spinner from Sri Lanka, has the best bowling figures in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He took 6 wickets and gave up 8 runs. In the 2012 T20 World Cup, he did it against Zimbabwe. Because Mendis bowled so well, Sri Lanka was able to defend their score of 183 and win by a huge 82 runs. The win is the eighth biggest in terms of the number of runs it took to win in the ICC’s main tournament. Ajantha Mendis’s 6/8 is also the second-best bowling figures in T20 International cricket, behind only Deepak Chahar’s 6/7 against Bangladesh for the Indian cricket team in 2019.

Rangana Herath: 5/3 against New Zealand, 2014
Rangana Herath, who is also from Sri Lanka, is the second-best bowler in the T20 World Cup. At Chattogram, Herath’s bowling figures of 5/3 against New Zealand helped Sri Lanka bowl out the Kiwis for just 60 runs while defending a low score of 120. The left-arm spinner helped Sri Lanka win the game and move on to the semi-finals of the 2014 T20 World Cup, where they went on to beat India in the final to win the tournament.

Umar Gul: 5 for 6 against New Zealand in 2009
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s Umar Gul has the best bowling figures for a fast bowler. In 2009, the former pacer’s match figures of 5/6 at The Oval helped Pakistan bowl out New Zealand for just 99 runs, and Pakistan went on to win the game easily by 6 wickets. Surprisingly, Gul was the player who took the most wickets in that tournament, with 13. Gul is the only bowler to appear twice (in 2007 and 2009) on the list of the top wicket-takers at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He is known for his powerful Yorkers.

Ahsan Malik, 5/19 against South Africa, 2014
Ahsan Malik of the Netherlands bowled 5/19 against South Africa at Chattogram in 2014. This is the best bowling performance by a player from an associate nation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. When Malik bowled first, his wickets kept South Africa at 145. Even though Malik did a great job, Netherlands came up just six runs short of a famous win.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman: 5/20 against Scotland, 2021
In the Super 12 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman had his best T20I bowling performance with 5/20 against Scotland. Mujeeb’s bowling kept Scotland from scoring more than 60 runs in a T20I, which was their lowest score ever. This helped Afghanistan win by a huge 130 runs.

Mustafizur Rahman 5/22 vs New Zealand, 2016
In the Super 10 match of the 2016 T20 World Cup, Mustafizur’s cunning hurt New Zealand. Rahman’s clever changes in speed made it hard for the New Zealand batters to score on the Eden Garden pitch, which helped slower bowlers. Mustafizur’s 5/22 is the best match score at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, even though Bangladesh lost the match.

James Faulkner 5/27 vs Pakistan, 2016
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, James Faulkner’s 5/27 is the best bowling performance by an Australian. The left-handed pacer did it against Pakistan at Mohali. In doing so, he also had his best performance in an international cricket match. Because of what he did, Australia won by 21 runs.

Lasith Malinga 5/31 vs England, 2012
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Lasith Malinga’s 5/31 is the best performance by a Sri Lankan fast bowler. Sri Lanka beat England by 19 runs at Pallekele in their last Super Eight match because of how well he played. The only five-wicket haul in the 2012 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was Malinga’s 5/31.
